The U17 boys team exceeded all expectations of a second-year program by capturing the California State Cup in April. The team already showed significant progress during the season, coming in second place in Silver South, ensuring a promotion to higher levels this coming year. There was more icing on the cake with a very decent showing in League Cup as well.

But the team's experiment with a three-forward rotational system came to a smashing conclusion in Lancaster, where the team outscored all opponents in the tournament in the tournament 23-6, eventually winning the Championship game 2-1 against Wolfpack. Coach David Weidner was then able to hoist his first-ever State Cup trophy (as a player or coach) to the delight of the team and parents.

A fabulous high-scoring offense was anchored by top scorers John Tribbey and Manuel Ganoza, with Patrick Lu and A.J. Magana doing their share of putting the ball in the back of the net. Backed up by a midfield of exquisite playmakers such as Jimmy Turner, Ben Adair, Colin Heim and Jacob Gibson, the offense never had to be concerned with a lack of good service.

While offenses win games, defenses win championships. Paul Fuchs and David Krogmann had a fabulous year in the backfield with lots of assistance from Ryan Martin, Roger Herrera, Luis Del Pozo and Mark Kelly-Isham. And we will not forget our wall in the back, Greg Griffin, an outstanding keeper who kept an amazing 1.25 GAA between the posts this year, assisted by Alex Anderson as backup goaltender.

Last but not least, we are very proud to have the experience and knowledge of coach David Weidner. His vision and hard work,together with strong leadership, have made the OC KINGS unique program truly a success. Now the team can look forward with pride and confidence as they face the next hurdle, a possible season in Gold and a trip to Germany in August, where they will truly represent California as the best of the State.
